David Centner is a successful serial entrepreneur, with pioneering ventures in Web
development, online marketplaces and electronic toll collection.
Prior to Highway Toll Administration, LLC, which he self-financed and established
in 2002 as the first provider of electronic-toll-collection products and services
for the car-rental industry, he was cofounder and president of MaterialNet, the
first reverse-auction, buyercentric business-to-business e-marketplace for raw materials.
Between September 1999 and February 2001, Mr. Centner secured some $15 million in
venture capital financing for MaterialNet, which Forbes had called one of the "best-of-the-best
B2Bs." In 2002, after the dotcom bubble burst and going public was not a viable
option, MaterialNet was sold to Perfect Commerce, a sourcing-and-procurement solutions
company.
A Web visionary, Mr. Centner founded in 1994 what became one of the world's
first Web-development and advertising companies, K2 Design, a full-service interactive
agency. K2 Design was the first such agency with an online-media-buying group, and
the first of its kind to be inducted into the prestigious American Association of
Advertising Agencies. As its chairman and CEO, Mr. Centner guided K2 Design through
a 1996 initial public offering and eventual profitability.
Mr. Centner also helped create CLIQNOW!, a leading network-model online-ad-sales
company, which was sold in 1999 to 24/7 Media (now 24/7 Real Media).
A 1988 graduate of the Wharton School of Business, with a major in Entrepreneurial
Management, Mr. Centner's first job out of Wharton was as a real estate consultant
for Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte and Touche).
